• Harness and Degree (actetochlor plus safener) control annual grasses, pigweed, and black nightshade, and control or suppresses yellow nutsedge, lambsquarters, and common ragweed. Control of lambsquarters and common ragweed will generally be less effective compared to most broadleaf herbicides, but more effective than Dual, Frontier, and alachlor products.
• Mode of action: shoot meristem inhibitor.
• Degree is an encapsulated product that provides a longer period of annual grass control compared to Harness.
• May be applied up to 30 days before planting as a single application. On coarse-textured soils, do not apply Harness more than 2 weeks prior to planting. When applied early, rates should be increased compared to application at the time of planting.
• Harness can be applied after planting but prior to weed emergence, and before corn height exceeds 11 inches. Do not apply using liquid fertilizer as the spray carrier after the corn has emerged. If weeds have emerged, tank-mix with herbicides that have postemergence activity. When tank-mixing with postemergence herbicides, follow the most restrictive label with regard to maximum corn size.
• Degree can be applied after planting but prior to weed emergence and before the corn height exceeds 11 inches. Degree plus atrazine should be applied before weeds have exceeded the 2-leaf stage.
• Degree plus atrazine can be applied in water or nitrogen fertilizer solution, but corn should not exceed 6 inches in height if fertilizer solution is used as the carrier. Do not apply in fertilizer solution when air temperatures exceed 85 degrees. Mixtures with products other than atrazine should be applied in water only if the corn has emerged. Leaf burn may occur when applied to emerged corn.
