Ohio State University Extension Bulletin

Management of Turfgrass Pests Weeds, Diseases, and Insects 2004

Bulletin L-187

Introduction

Purpose

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide a listing of currently available products and general guidelines for turfgrass professionals maintaining golf course, commercial and home lawn turfgrass as well as professionals that provide information to these industries. The bulletin describes IPM strategies to improve turfgrass health and vigor, including management practices other than pesticide usage to control weeds, diseases and insects. Dilution tables are provided at the end of the bulletin to assist in determining the correct dilution ratio.

Important

An amendment to the Federal Insecticide and Rodenticide Act was passed by Congress and signed by the President on October 21, 1972. This regulation classifies all pesticides for ‘general’ or ‘restricted’ use. It requires anyone who applies a ‘restricted’ pesticide to be certified. This regulation makes it a criminal offense to misuse a pesticide. You should remain aware of these changes and be alert to any specific requirements which affect your operation.

The Law Requires…
That you triple rinse pesticide containers before you take them to a sanitary landfill.

NOTICE

Pesticide Recommendation Disclaimer Clause

This publication contains pesticide timing and application recommendations that are subject to change at any time. These recommendations are provided only as a guide. It is always the pesticide applicator's responsibility, by law, to read and follow all current label directions for the specific pesticide being used. Due to constantly changing labels and product registration, some of the listings given in this writing may no longer be legal by the time you read them. If any information in these listings or recommendations disagrees with the label, the recommendation must be disregarded. No endorsement is intended for products mentioned, or is criticism meant for products not mentioned. The authors and The Ohio State University Extension assume no liability resulting from the use of these recommendations.

Due to the continuous introduction of new chemical compounds, discontinuance of various ones now in use, and frequent changes in specific pest control recommendations, specific chemical compounds to use in the control of weed, disease, and insect pests are revised annually in this publication -- Bulletin L-187, Management of Turfgrass Pests.

In the event registration is canceled for a pesticide listed in this publication during the current year, it would no longer be listed by The Ohio State University publications.

General information on care of turfgrass, including causes, symptoms, and timing of treatments of weed, disease, and insect pests, is given in Bulletin 271, Your Lawn, as well as various OSU Extension Fact Sheets. These publications are available through your OSU Extension (county agent's) office, directly from The Ohio State University or through the OhioLine Web Site (http://ohioline.osu.edu)
