Live Smart: Health and Safety Activities for Youth Clubs

Bulletin 907

How to use this packet

The single page activity sheets are divided into Safety and Health topics. Each page provides the leader with a short program to teach others. It is up to the officer to read the activities and gather the necessary materials before the lesson is taught. Some activities require more preparation than others.

Leaders are encouraged to add more details where they seem appropriate. These lessons are designed to give the officer an idea about a particular topic and provide an interactive activity to involve other club members. Many of the games will need more questions or game sheets added, depending on the number of people in the group. The leaders should not be afraid to make changes to these activities to meet the needs of their club members. The lessons are merely ideas to get started.

Serving as a club officer provides a valuable experience for developing leadership skills. Being a health or safety officer is even more challenging and exciting. These leaders are making a difference in the lives of their peers. Health and safety leaders are respected for helping their communities become better places to live.

Finally, leaders are encouraged to have fun! Teaching health and safety programs doesn't have to be boring. By making the activities interactive and exciting, the other club members will be more likely to remember the message. They will also be more ready to practice the behaviors if they had fun learning about them!
