Cultural Practices in Vegetable Crop Weed Management Programs

Bulletin 888-00

Summary

Any practice that makes the crop more competitive with weeds may be useful in the overall weed management plan. Many cultural practices, such as prevention, eradication, cultivation, and the use of PRM and banded fertilizer may assist growers in controlling weeds, perhaps with less herbicide application. Such cultural practices are important as growers and consumers seek the most effective and environmentally sound weed management strategies. It is also possible that the reduced availability of some commonly used herbicides will increase the value of effective cultural weed management techniques.
