Cultural Practices in Vegetable Crop Weed Management Programs

Bulletin 888-00

Introduction

In vegetable production, cultural practices such as cultivation, hand-weeding, and mulching are usually required to supplement control obtained with herbicides. Cultural practices may also serve as alternatives to herbicides when none are available, or when the grower decides against herbicide use. The purpose of this publication is to describe a number of cultural practices that may be useful in overall weed management programs. The practical experience of two Ohio farmers in using some of these practices is also described.
