Site: 5' Tree Lawn
1971 Comments: These trees are located on a residential street with heavy traffic due to a hospital in the area. This selection is troubled by borers because of the black locust understock which constitutes the root and trunk of the tree. Although these trees have very attractive spring flowers, they are not desirable for street use because of the borer problem.

1997 Comments: The location of the five trees originally measured could not be determined. The growth of plants in the overall planting was variable. There is no sidewalk damage. Some of the trees sprouted from the root stock that resulted in large black locusts in the planting areas.
Twenty-six percent of the overall planting survived (9 of 35 trees). The 1997 data in the table are based on four trees.
