QUERCUS SHUMARDI Shumard Oak

3664 West 107, Cleveland

Planted: 1949

Site: 6' Tree Lawn

1971 Comments: The trees are pyramidal and uniform in size and in form. Even though these trees are located on a narrow tree lawn and are adjacent to a narrow street, they have been limbed up sufficiently to fit the site and to prevent traffic interference.

Height 34.0' 36.2' 36.8' 39.0' 62.0'

Spread 24.8' 27.8' 30.0' 33.6' 59.8'

1997 Comments: Sidewalk damage was moderate considering that the trunks and root collars take up the entire six-foot tree lawn. The largest of the five trees is 34 inches in diameter. These plants create a wonderful canopy effect. One lady came running out and told us that if we were planning any harm to the trees, she would go to court to save them. It appears the citizens have a love affair with these plants.

One hundred percent of the planting survived (5 of 5). The 1997 data in the table are based on five trees.
