GLEDITSIA TRIACANTHOS 'SHADEMASTER' Shademaster Honeylocust

1268 Plainfield, Cleveland

Planted: 1955

Site: 7' Tree Lawn

1971 Commments: This tree is faster growing but less uniform than other Gleditsia cultivars, so it requires extensive pruning during the first six years of growth. It fits well in this tree lawn. Utility lines are overhead, but there is no interference with the lines at the present time. The street is residential and very attractive because of the large trees on both sides.

1997 Comments: These plants are in 7-foot tree lawns. There is a little sidewalk damage associated with these trees. The trees give an attractive canopy effect to the street scape.

Fifty-two percent of the overall planting survived (12 of 23 trees). The 1997 data in the table are based on five trees.
