1971 Comments: This is a suburban area with a wide tree lawn. Houses are set back approximately forty feet from the sidewalk. The trees appear to be growing well but not rapidly, and have the typical formal character of this size species.

1997 Comments: Only one of the estimated 20 plants has survived in this situation. However, in no instance was Hawthorn survival good. The single survivor is doing all right. Any sidewalk damage in the area was not due to the trees.
Five percent of the overall planting survived (1 of 20 trees). The 1997 data in the table are based on one tree.
