ACER SACCHARUM Sugar Maple

Southway at Greenvalley, Toledo

Planted: 1960

Site: Homeowners' Lawns

1971 Comments: The trees are typical upright oval habit, very uniform, and appear to be growing well in this situation. There are no sidewalks or overhead lines and the trees are set back from the street on the homeowners' property. This appears to be a very good choice for this spacious planting situation.

1997 Comments: It must be remembered that these plants are in a lawn setting. Currently, the twig extension on all these plants is greatly reduced. These plants may be starting to decline. The plants are probably about 6 feet back from the curb. Many of the plants are fairly attractive looking.

Sixty-seven percent of the overall planting survived (8 of 12 trees). The 1997 data in the table are based on four trees.
