1971 Comments: These trees are of the typical globular habit and located in a very narrow tree lawn with utility lines overhead. The houses on this street are large two-story structures and the trees are definitely out of scale.

1997 Comments: A number of the remaining plants are declining. We asked one of the residents about these trees and his comment was "It ain't a tree." The form is not pleasing. Certainly the tree does not function as a shade tree. The small stature, however, does allow these plants to remain under power lines without any pruning.
Thirty-eight percent of the overall planting survived (5 of 13 trees). The 1997 data in the table are based on five trees.
