ACER PLATANOIDES 'COLUMNARE' Upright Norway Maple

4028 Wreford, Toledo

Planted: 1960

Site: Homeowners' Lawns

1971 Comments: The plants have a typical narrow columnar habit and are developing slowly. They are located in the homeowner's lawn close to the street. There is no sidewalk, so they appear to be out of scale with the wide street and deep setback of the homes. A wide-spreading tree planted farther from the street would have provided a better appearance in this area.

1997 Comments: Twig extension growth has slowed dramatically in recent years, but the plants continue to appear healthy. Some of the plants have spread out dramatically, while others have not. Also, some plants have spreading and upright branches on the same plant. These trees have filled the site well.

Eighty-six percent of the overall planting survived (12 of 14 trees). The 1997 data in the table are based on five trees.
