Reuse Of Reclaimed Wastewater Through Irrigation

Bulletin 860

Step 5

Determine the size of the application area.

Acres needed = [(Daily wastewater flow (mgd) x 365 (days/year) x 36.8 (acre inch/m gal)/ Total hydraulic load (inches/year)]

Example

(0.025 mgd x 365 days/year x 36.8 acre-inches/m gal)/38.7 inches/year = 8.7 acres

Wilson County Wastewater Irrigation Wastewater from the 28 homes in the community of Wilson, Ohio, has been treated and stored in two one-acre facultative lagoons since 1990. During the summer months the treated wastewater is distributed by gravity though a flood irrigation system into three acres of woodlot.
