Reducing Spray Drift

Bulletin 816-00

Factors Affecting Drift

Drift is influenced by many factors that usually may be grouped into one of the following four categories:

  1. Spray characteristics.
  2. Equipment and application techniques used.
  3. Weather.
  4. Operator care and skill.

Following is a general discussion of those factors that play a primary role in the creation of drift. Detailed information about these and other drift factors can be found in OSU Extension Publication AEX 525-98 by Ozkan (1998), and in the publication by Smith et al. (1982).
