Personal Clean-up

After you have completed the pesticide application, disposed of excess material, and cleaned the application equipment, you should thoroughly wash and dry all your protective equipment (respirators, gloves, boots, etc.). Store them in a clean place so they are ready for your next pesticide application.

Next, remove your work clothes and place them in an area separate from the family laundry. Do not allow pets or children to play on or with contaminated clothing. The pesticides on your work clothes may harm other people who handle them, so warn those who do the laundry and have them washed separately from other clothing.

Now, take a shower. Wash yourself thoroughly and completely with soap and water. Include your hair and fingernails in the wash-up. After showering, put on a complete change of clean clothes.

If spills, accidents or other incidents occur during handling and application of pesticides that cause personal contamination, immediately remove the contaminated clothing and thoroughly wash the affected areas of the body. Haste is essential in counteracting human exposure to most toxic pesticide chemicals. Highly contaminated clothing should be disposed of rather than attempting to clean it by laundering.
