Biological Seed Treatments

Recent research has focused on biological control of certain seed and seedling diseases of crops. The most promising biological control agents tested have been either fungi or bacteria. These biological seed treatments control seed pests by parasitizing the pest organisms, competing for food on the root system, or producing toxic compounds that inhibit pathogen growth. Several biological seed treatments are currently on the market. However, these seed treatments have not performed consistently for Ohio's field crop producers.
