4-H Project Selection Guide

This guide will help 4-H families, clubs and groups select projects for the year. (This includes members enrolled in one-project clubs, EFNEP groups and special community and school programs.) It provides most of the information necessary to make intelligent project choices. Please check the actual project book for specific requirements. Information provided in this guide includes:

• Project Description - The page number of each project description.
• Younger Members - This symbol (§) indicates if the project is ideal for 8 to 10 year-olds.
• Project Skill Level
  B — Indicates a beginning-level project for members with no experience in a project area, or 8-10 year olds.
  I — Indicates an intermediate-level project for members with some experience in a project area, or 11-13 year olds.
  A — Indicates an advanced-level project for experienced members in a project area, or 14 or older.
  X—Indicates a combination of age levels. Please check the project book for appropriate age levels.
• State Competition — Projects to be judged at the Ohio State Fair are indicated by this symbol (*). 4-H members are normally selected for state fair events as a result of county fair competition. Although participation in fairs is optional, we encourage family involvement in this type of learning activity.
• Project Resources - Projects that require additional resources, such as a Resource Handbook, member's project guide or livestock record, in addition to the project manual are indicated with a ®.
• Group Projects - Designed to be taken as group projects only. Each contains ready-made lesson plans for project advisors to use. Members may decide to take one or more of these as a group project. All group project manuals (GPM) are identified by this symbol ¶.
