On three of the study sites, Wooster 1 and 2 and Pomerene 3, there were consistent, but statistically nonsignificant, increases in numbers of lateral limbs on trees fertilized with N; these were also the sites for which shoot growth, needle lengths, and foliage weights were least. On the other two sites (Pomerene 1 and 2) where growth was generally best, there were no apparent effects of fertilization.
