Matthew Roberts has joined the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics as an assistant professor with a 75% Extension appointment.
His current interests are in the incorporation of seasonal trends into hedging decisions and the use of term-structure models of futures prices to analyze basis spreads in grain markets.
A native of Bolivar, Mo., Roberts completed his Ph.D. in economics at North Carolina State University in 2001, specializing in agricultural and financial economics. While pursuing his Ph.D. at North Carolina State, he also worked as a market research analyst for the oncology department of GlaxoWellcome. From 1994 through 1996, he was a commodity and energy derivatives broker at CA Global Futures in Vienna, Austria.
