Traveling through Washington County, OH, the first true signs of summer were roadside signs advertising locally produced sweet corn (left, above). Local demand is high because of quality and flavor. A pile of sweet corn (right, above) placed on a roadside market east of Marietta, OH was nearly gone by 10:30 AM. Sweet corn harvest started around June 19th.

A crowd of about 60 growers, seed company reps, and suppliers gathered at the Jerry Witten farm on Rt 60 in Lowell, OH for the twilight vegetable tour.
