Last 2 Weeks of : July, 1998

Bacterial wilt continues to develop in pumpkin vines even at this late stage. Areas between main veins turn light green and then yellow.
Closeup of leaf. Leaves may turn dufferent colors before showing wilt symptoms. After the yellow color turns brown, dead areas of the leaf can drop out. Eventually the vine will wilt and die.

Growing Tips For This Week:

Continue to scout for cucumber beetles.
During the last 2 weeks in July, begin scouting for Powdery Mildew and be prepared to apply first spray. Already reported by July 15 in northern IL.
Control grass weeds now with the proper post-emergent herbicides but do not apply during hot-humid weather.
