Timber Rot. (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) The fungus can infect leaves, stems, and petioles and can occasionally fruit. Early symptoms are a loss of vigor, often followed by wilting and finally death of the plant. Typically, a white moldly growth can be seen at the base of the stem. Soft decay of the external tissues is followed by an internal hollowing of the pith. Black pellet like bodies called sclerotia can be found on the surface or inside the stems. |
